If the UK has the political will, we could reach a positive solution on the negotiations on the Protocol onnorthern Ireland. This was stated by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during a press point organized upon his arrival in Dublin, where he is on an official visit. “Brexit has meant a lot of adjustments for Ireland, but as far as I'm concerned you've done it very successfully,” he said with der Leyen referring to Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin. “The European Union has listened very carefully to the concerns of citizens and businesses in Northern Ireland on the issues of the Protocol. We have always shown flexibility, and we will always have a constructive approach to these issues,” he added. “If there is the political will in the UK, I am very confident that we can reach a successful conclusion,” he concluded.
