The United States will officially support the request for admission of the African Union (AU) within the G20 group. White House adviser Judd Devermont told the media, adding that President Joe Biden will announce the decision during the US-Africa summit scheduled in Washington next week. “The time has come for Africa to have permanent seats at the table of international organizations and initiatives. We need more African voices in international conversations regarding the global economy, democracy and governance, climate change, health and safety,” Devermont said quoted by the “Washington Post”. For the US government, the position taken testifies to Washington's willingness to strengthen relations with the African continent, in response to growing criticism by African countries of the lack of representation within the main international organizations. With this objective, the African Union and South Africa - the only African member of the G20 - presented a joint motion to obtain a place for the African organization within the group, which brings together the major global economies.
