Zen angel, the Italian citizen originally from the province of Vicenza who was in the Turkish city of Kahramanmaras near the epicenter of the two devastating 7.8 and 7.6 earthquakes that occurred yesterday in Turkey, is currently still untraceable. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, speaking live on “Tg3”.
"The Farnesina is also in contact with the Turkish Civil Protection to gather news on Angelo Zen", added Tajani. The minister underlined that the Farnesina's crisis unit operations room is working 24 hours a day to provide information to "all Italians". "The Italian citizen cannot be traced, we have no information on him, we are also in contact with the Turkish civil protection," said Tajani. The minister specified that Zen “he worked in Turkey in the machinery sector, he was probably working”. Regarding the rumors spread by some press organs. according to which Zen was in a hotel in the city of Kharamammaras destroyed by the earthquake, Tajani observed: “The information is inaccurate, we don't know where he was at the time of the earthquake, if it was really that hotel. Before giving news better to be cautious. For now this citizen is only untraceable. Let's see what happens,” Tajani added.
“We managed to contact all the Italians present in the earthquake area, there is only one Italian missing who we have not been able to contact, we are in constant contact with the family. I spoke to them a little while ago”, said Tajani who underlined that the Farnesina has been delegated by Zen's family to give information concerning him.
"We ask the press for confidentiality and respect for the family", said Tajani, recalling that Kharamammaras is a city of over one million inhabitants where it is currently "difficult to find a person" due to the situation on the ground.
