A British military team in the West Bank is helping prepare the Palestinian National Authority (PA) to take control of Gaza. This is what the UK Defense Minister said: Grant Shapps, to the newspaper “The Times”, explaining that a team has been present in Ramallah for more than ten years and that London will try to increase its capacity to assist the PNA.
Yesterday, during a visit to Ramallah, Shapps met with the military team in question and the major general Ziad Hab al-Reeh, Minister of the Interior of the PNA. “We must use this terrible crisis to improve the security of Israelis and the lives and livelihoods of Palestinians. One of the reasons we are going to Ramallah to talk to the Palestinian Authority is to understand their capabilities,” Shapps said yesterday.
The minister then added: “Ultimately, I think the solution will probably be a Palestinian Authority capable of a level of governance that will require a tremendous amount of international help and support. We haven't gotten to that point yet."
