“George is amazing. We can say that a friendship was born": with these words the Albanian premier, Edi Rama, defined the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the beginning of an interview given to “La Stampa”. but in addition to the emotional aspect, Rama clarified that for him Meloni "it is a concrete policy” and categorically denied any alarmism about a possible “fascist danger”. “Thank you for hosting me in your land and for the warm welcome I received, Edi. I'll wait for you in Italy” the Prime Minister wrote on Facebook.

Meloni has been a guest in the Albanian premier's villa in the Gulf of Valona in recent days, a sign of friendship but also of closeness between two peoples in the summer in which Albania was one of the favorite tourist destinations by Italians. Rama denied the meeting feared by some Albanian media with the former British prime minister Tony Blair, also a guest of the Albanian head of government, but in the days preceding Meloni's arrival, and then illustrated some of the concrete themes of their encounter. “We talked for a long time about international relations. And of European integration, which you define as reunification”, said Rama, in relation to the accession of the Western Balkans to the EU. "Giorgia told me it's time to get to the point, without letting the Western Balkans get by", added the Albanian premier.

With regard to Italian-Albanian economic cooperation, Rama explained that there are many things pending and announced that soon "the Strategic Committee for Italian investments will meet for the second time". “We talked about the aqueduct project, which Andreotti and Berlusconi already wanted, from Albania to Puglia. That would be important. It is about using springs in southern Albania to connect them with Italy. Then there is the management of the railway network in the Balkans, which needs to be developed.

Finally, technology: large Italian companies have shown interest in the past. And the project of the power line that would connect Italy and Albania. She is someone who can move things around, I have a lot of confidence ”, said the premier who then clarified his position on the premier's political ideas. “She's right-wing, but they said she was a fascist monster who was going to march on Brussels. Instead, from day one, he hasn't made a mistake on the line of international politics", said Rama, announcing that Meloni will be back in Albania in October, when Tirana will host the summit of the Berlin process, a forum dedicated precisely to the European integration of the Balkan region. "I will welcome you with open arms," concluded Rama.
