The Spanish Congress of Deputies will today open the debate on the motion of no confidence signed by the 52 deputies of the sovereign party Vox against the prime minister, Pedro Sanchez, with 89-year-old economist Ramón Tamames as the speaker and presidential candidate if successful. This is the sixth no-confidence motion from the 1978 Constitution, the second presented by Vox in this legislature and the first in history to be led by an independent candidate, with no organic ties to the party proposing it.
The debate will open with the intervention of the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, to present his candidate, and then Ramón Tamames himself. Both have unlimited time available for their interventions. Sanchez will certainly speak, but other members of the executive could also speak. Each parliamentary group will have a first round of 30 minutes and another 10 minutes for replies.
