Another fighter of the Front for alternation and harmony of Chad (Fact) died in prison during detention. This was reported in a statement by the movement, accused by the military junta in power of having killed the former president Idriss Déby and that last year he launched an offensive against his son, Mahamat, who has been the transitional president of the country since April 2021.
"We bring to public opinion the death of one of our prisoners Hassan Ousmane Dagouba, 40", writes the Fact in a note sent to "Nova Agency“, specifying that the prisoner died last night around 23 pm in his cell in the maximum security prison of Klessoum, where the fighters of the Front accused of murder and subversion are being held. To date, according to the Fact, a total of 17 inmates of the group have died "in prison due to cruel and degrading treatment". The group underlines the prison conditions that do not respect the Geneva Convention to which the rebels are subjected and ask humanitarian organizations "to take care of the situation of our prisoners". The group holds the prison administration co-responsible for these deaths, since the authorities did not allow access to treatment.
On March 21, the military court of N'Djamena sentenced the Fact fighters to life imprisonment, in the context of the lightning trial they were subjected to because they were accused of killing former president Idriss Deby in April 2021 during their offensive against the government. The trial, which the Fact management described as "a farce", was opened against 454 fighters accused of launching an offensive in 2021 to overthrow then-President Idriss Deby and then killing him in battle. opened last February 13th. The hearings took place inside the Klessoum maximum security military prison itself. The rebels were held to account for crimes of terrorism, the recruitment of child soldiers, mercenaryism, undermining state security and the assassination of an incumbent president. After Deby's death, a military junta led by his son Mahamat seized power in the country. Negotiations with the rebels - who have boycotted national dialogue and are calling for the release of detained colleagues - have so far stalled.
