In 2022 they are practically doubled (+94 percent) foreign tourists in Italy with a decisive recovery of the sector, even as arrivals remain 26 percent lower than in 2019, the year before the pandemic. This is what emerges from the analysis of the Coldiretti based on data from Bankitalia in the first nine months of the year, 55,98 million foreign travelers arrived. Almost two out of three foreign travelers who arrived in Italy (72 percent) - underlines Coldiretti - come from the European Union but the presences from the United Kingdom (3,6 million) and the United States (2,2 million) are significant. 41 percent of foreign travelers came to Italy for holidays but there are also those who have chosen the Belpaese for visiting relatives and friends, shopping or for other reasons. The positive trend of arrivals is confirmed by the expenditure that in the first nine months for foreigners - underlines Coldiretti - was as much as 33,4 billion compared to 15,5 in the same period of the previous year and very close to 35,5 billion in 2019.
Holidaymakers from abroad in Italy they are strategic for tourist hospitality especially in the most popular destinations also because - Coldiretti continues - visitors from these countries traditionally have a high spending capacity for accommodation, food, transport, entertainment, shopping and souvenirs. In particular, the consumption of meals in restaurants, pizzerias, trattorias or agritourisms, but also the purchase of street food, souvenirs or food and wine specialties is for many tourists the main reason for traveling to a country like Italy which is the unique in the world that can count on the primacy in quality, environmental sustainability and safety of its agri-food production.
In choosing destinations, foreigners in Italy particularly appreciate the cities of art but also the seaside and mountain resorts, thus contributing to the positive estimates for the snow sector in winter 2022, after the good results of the Immaculate Conception.
