With the last one maxi-landing of 442 people occurred yesterday in Lampedusa, Italy has exceeded the threshold of 150 thousand migrants arriving irregularly by sea since the beginning of the year. According to data from the daily statistical dashboard of the Ministry of the Interior, in fact, a total of 150.777 people disembarked between January 23st and November 62rd, an increase of 94.343 percent compared to the approximately 2022 arrivals recorded in the same period of XNUMX. The latest data of Interior Ministry seen by "Agenzia Nova" confirm the peak of arrivals by sea from Tunisia, almost 95 thousand since the beginning of the year, an average of almost 300 migrants landed per day: more than tripled the figure of 32.101 total arrivals from the Tunisian route in all of 2022. To these numbers must be added at least another 44.092 migrants who were intercepted from January 31st to October 2023st XNUMX, according to the latest available data published by the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES). Furthermore, overall Ftdes counted 770 dead and missing at sea in the first ten months of the current year along the Tunisian route, while the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior reported 1.293 dead and missing.
The Libyan route, however, is more distant, in second place with at least 47.300 illegal migrants disembarked as of November 20, according to data from Interior Ministry seen by “Nova”. More than half of the migrants who landed in Italy from the Libyan coast, around 30 thousand, left from Tripolitania, the western region of the North African country under the control of the government led by the prime minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba. From Cyrenaica, the eastern region dominated by General Khalifa Haftar and hit last September by the devastating cyclone "Daniel", over 16 thousand migrants have arrived to date.
According to the latest IOM estimates, from the beginning of the year to 11 November, 13.611 migrants were intercepted at sea and returned to Libya, of which 10.352 men, 943 women, 494 minors and 2.443 people whose gender data were not are available. The death of 939 migrants was confirmed, while 1.248 are still missing in attempts to emigrate towards the European coasts via the central Mediterranean route (which includes both Libya than Tunisia), for a total of 2.187 deceased people. The numbers from the Italian Ministry of the Interior seen by "Nova" finally show 6.683 arrivals by sea from Turkey. Finally, the route that brought at least 524 irregular migrants to Italy from Algeria remains marginal, compared to 1.389 arrivals last year.
According to the data from the daily statistical dashboard published on the website of the Department for Civil Liberties and Immigration of the Interior Ministry, in first place for landings in Italy as of 21 November 2023 is the Ivory Coast with 17.908 arrivals, while in the same period of 2022 there was Egypt with around 19.000 landings from the Libyan route, in particular the "eastern" one which heads from the coasts of Cyrenaica to Sicily. Another African country follows, Tunisia, with 16.609 arrivals as of November 21st, around a thousand less than in the same period in 2022. However, be careful not to get confused: mainly sub-Saharans depart from Tunisia, less than two in ten are Tunisian nationality. The citizens of the Ivory Coast are now in third place in terms of irregular landings in Italy, with 15.858 arrivals by sea, while last year it was the Bangladeshis (more than 13 thousand) who occupied the lowest step of the podium in this period. Also noteworthy is the arrival this year of 11.257 citizens of the country Bangladesh who most likely traveled the Libyan route to land in Italy.
