The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived today in Bamako, the capital of Mali. As reported by the "Tass" news agency, during the visit Lavrov will meet his Malian counterpart Abdoulaye Diop, as well as the interim president Assimi Goita.
According to a statement from the Moscow Foreign Ministry, the negotiations will focus on the expansion of Russian-Malian cooperation at a commercial and economic level, with particular attention to the development of reserves of mineral raw materials, geological exploration, energy, infrastructure, agriculture. Another topic that will be discussed are the practicalities of the forthcoming supplies of Russian grain, fertilizers and petroleum products to Mali. The sides should also discuss international and domestic issues with a focus on events surrounding Ukraine, crisis resolution and the fight against terrorism in West Africa. Lastly, the Russian ministry added that further strengthening of military and military-technical cooperation, as well as humanitarian cooperation, is expected to be considered.
