The President of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, expressed his thanks to Libya for hosting tens of thousands of displaced Sudanese. “(Libya) provides them with free education and facilitates administrative procedures,” he said Al Burhan during a press conference with the head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Memphis, in Tripoli.
The Sudanese leader also underlined that his country is working with its Libyan "brothers" "to overcome the difficult challenges we all face", stating that he appreciates Libya's "positive" role in Sudan. For his part, the Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al Manfi, reaffirmed Libya's adherence to the principle of non-interference in Sudan's internal affairs, politically and militarily, and supported President Al Burhan's efforts to preserve the unity of Sudan, underlining that Libya "will treat Sudanese refugees in the same way as Libyans in all aspects, educational and health".
Al Burhan arrived in Tripoli today for an official visit, accompanied by the interim Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Al Sadiq Ali, and the head of Sudan's General Intelligence, General Ahmed Ibrahim Mofadal. According to what the Sovereign Council reports in a note, Al Burhan will also meet the prime minister of Libya's Government of National Unity (GUN), Abdulhamid Dabaiba, to discuss bilateral relations. Al Burhan's visit comes after Dabaiba met with the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, last Saturday and invited him to visit Libya. The visit is expected to take place by the end of this week. Libyan sources commented to "Agenzia Nova" that the arrival of both Sudanese leaders in Tripoli takes on a particularly significant meaning on the one hand and underlines the evolving diplomatic ties between Sudan and Libya; on the other, it could lead to obtaining a ceasefire in Khartoum and a return to the negotiating table for a lasting peace.
