The warning was launched by the president of the Bundeswehr Association (Dbwv), André Wuestner. Interviewed by the television station "Zdf", Wuestner defined the possible delivery of the Leopard 2s to the country attacked by Russia "positive for Ukraine on the one hand, negative for the operational readiness of the Bundeswehr on the other". According to the president of DBWV, one should not believe that the war in the former Soviet republic will end "in two or three months". Wuestner added that, "if we are not only to support Ukraine, but also to be able to defend ourselves", Germany's military industry must be strengthened so that, in the next few years, weapons and materials necessary for the Bundeswehr. The president of the Dbwv then highlighted: “In recent months it has been stated that we are only partially ready for defense, if at all. The truth is that we have continued to give away weapons and ammunition since February. We are still in free fall, we do not yet have an epochal turning point in terms of our defense capability". According to Wuestner, "politics has not only the responsibility of supporting Ukraine against the war of Russian aggression, but also that of NATO's national defense".
