Fifa says no to Zelensky: no video message before the World Cup final

Zelensky would have liked his message - it is not clear whether recorded or live - to be broadcast on the screens of the Lusail stadium, where the match will be played

La Fifa rejected the request of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, to spread a "video message of peace" before the kick-off of the final World in Qatar between France and Argentina, scheduled for Sunday 18 November. This was reported by the US broadcaster "CNN" quoting a source familiar with the facts.

According to the latter, Zelensky would have liked his message - it is not clear whether recorded or live - to be broadcast on the screens of the Lusail stadium, where the match will be played. The head of state of Kiev would have been "surprised" by the denial opposed by the world football federation. According to the source, however, contacts are still ongoing between the parties. Zelensky has already used large events several times to try to increase international support for the Ukrainian cause: he did it at the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia, and the Grammy awards and the Cannes Film Festival.
