A total of 34 migrant people drowned when the barge they were traveling in capsized off the coast of Djibouti. This was reported by the director for East Africa of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Mohammed Abdiker, which in a series of messages published on Twitter specified that the migrants were transported by traffickers and that the one announced today is the second tragedy in just over a month, after about 20 people died in similar circumstances in March.

“Stop and prosecute human traffickers and traffickers who exploit migrants' vulnerabilities must become a priority. Too many lives needlessly lost,” Abdiker wrote.
