The agreement in the field of high-tech regenerative agriculture launched in Algeria by the Italian agricultural group Bf Spa will be officially launched in November in the Timimoun region, in the south of the North African country. The newspaper “Echourouk” reports, explaining that the project – the result of the partnership between Bf International and the Algerian National Investment Fund (Fni) – will initially focus on 3.000 hectares destined for the cultivation of durum wheat and then subsequently cultivate 10.000 hectares of dried legumes. This is only part of a larger plan that includes the use of 36.000 hectares for the production of durum wheat, legumes and pasta. The Algerian newspaper specifies that the partnership agreement was signed on Tuesday 8 October at the headquarters of the Fni – the financial arm of the North African government – in Algiers, in the presence of the director general of the Fund, Kamal Mansouri, and the CEO of the Italian agricultural company, Federico Vecchioni.
The company that will manage the project, called Bf El Djazair Spa, will be a joint venture in which the Italian partner will hold 51 percent of the capital, while the Algerian Fund will own the remaining 49 percent. According to “Echorouk”, the costs of the project will also be distributed proportionally. One of the key elements for the success of the project is water supply. The Algerian government, the newspaper explains, has already granted authorizations for the extraction of underground water, essential to ensure the irrigation of crops in an arid region like Timimoun. The Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Water Resources have worked closely together to facilitate these procedures and provide the necessary licenses to dig artesian wells and extract water for agricultural use. In April 2025, the Algiers newspaper concludes, the project will enter a new phase with the extension of cultivation to 6.900 hectares of dried legumes, as established in the initial agreement.
