Fight against bicycle theft a Rome: 75 years after the famous neorealist film "Bicycle Thieves", the municipal administration today launched the first public initiative to combat the phenomenon, sadly known and heard in the city. A total of two thousand will arrive in 40 stations of the capital bike box: these are small garages, with a small door that must be locked and whose use has no cost for public transport users who subscribe to the service. The first 66 were inaugurated this morning at the Eur Magliana station of Metro B. By 2023 in the city there will be 600 boxes in seven stations. We start with the first seven stops on Metro B (Eur Magliana, San Paolo, Ponte Mammolo, Laurentina), on Metro B1 (Jonio) and on Metro A (Anagnina and Arco di Travertino) for a total of 408 boxes. We then continue with the other 253 in a further 11 stations: on Metro B (Bologna, Policlinico, Rebibbia), on Metro B1 (Conca d'oro), on Metro A (Battistini, Giulio Agricola, Lucio Sestio, Porta Furba, , Subaugusta ) and on Metro C (Pigneto and Torre Maura).
The service strengthens the intermodality systems: this morning, at the Eur Magliana stop, the new fleets of scooters which will be located at the hubs of urban mobility were also presented, in the presence of the mayor Roberto Gualtieri. “This initiative will make the city of Rome make a qualitative leap in terms of accessibility – he explained Gualtieri -. Citizens will be able to use bicycles and public transport and freely cross a large and complex city like Rome." In the first experimental phase, the Bike box service will be reserved for subscribers and therefore holders of a Metrebus card. “When the new service contract with Atac comes into force, everyone will benefit from it,” added the Rome Mobility councilor, Eugenio Patane. The idea is that of a daily or hourly cost, which can be purchased in the same way as you buy tickets. Also speaking at the presentation were: the president of the Roma IX Municipality, Titti Di Salvo, the general director of Atac, Alberto Zorzan and the president of the municipal agency Roma Servizi per la Mobilità, Anna Donati.
