Twenty-nine precautionary measures in prison were notified this morning as part of an investigation by the Naples prosecutor's office into Sorianiell clano, criminal group active in Naples in the area of Trajan district. Thirteen of the recipients of the measure issued by the judge for preliminary investigations are currently detained for other crimes, while another suspect died of natural causes before the execution of the measure. The crimes of mafia-type association, extortion aggravated by the mafia method, association aimed at drug trafficking, illegal possession of a firearm, all aggravated by the purposes of facilitating the Sorianiello clan, are contested for various reasons. The arrests arise from an investigation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit from 2019 to 2021.
The investigation made it possible to ascertain the suspects' belonging to the Sorianiello clan, operating in the Traiano district of Naples, falling within the sphere of influence of the criminal cartel called "Alleanza di Secondigliano"; the control by the clan of the active drug dealing squares within the so-called "99 park"; the clan's intimidating force in controlling the territory also through armed conflict with rival clans; numerous extortion episodes in the management of illicit activities; the clan's availability of numerous firearms.
Over the years of investigative activity, the police and prosecutor's office have already reconstructed other criminal episodes, the subject of past disputes. It was possible to identify and arrest the instigators and perpetrators of the murder of Desmond Oviamwonyi and the wounding of Morris Idahosa, accrued in May 2020 within the same Camorra context; seize 15 kilograms of narcotic substances of various types attributable to the clan; find and seize 24 pistols, 14 war rifles, 670 ammunition of various calibers, silencers and bulletproof jackets all attributable to the clan.
