They tried to deceive a 91 year old woman to extract money from her, but the granny sensed the scam and had them arrested. In San Giorgio a Cremano, in the province of Naples, two people were arrested on charges of fraud: they are now in prison awaiting trial. According to what was reconstructed by the carabinieri, the two contacted the old woman telling her that they should have delivered a package expected by her nephew and that in order to receive her it was necessary to pay 700 euros, preferably in cash. The sum would have been collected by a courier in exchange for the arriving package.

The old woman pretended to take the bait, but once the phone call was over she contacted 112. The military thus reached the old woman's house and waited for the scammers with her. When the fake courier knocked to deliver the package, the old woman opened and collected the package and handed over part of the money. At that point the fake courier was arrested. Waiting for him on the street, inside a car, was his accomplice: he too was arrested. The accused are Luciano Maiorano and Alfonso Balido, both 50-year-olds from the Neapolitan neighborhood of Ponticelli. For the 91-year-old, compliments from the Carabinieri for having foiled yet another scam.
