Iran's intelligence forces have foiled an attempt to carry out 30 simultaneous terrorist attacks in Tehran in recent days, arresting all those responsible in several provinces of the country. This was announced in a press release from the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence, specifying that it had arrested 28 alleged members of a terrorist cell affiliated with the Islamic State (IS). The arrests occurred as part of a series of operations by intelligence forces in Tehran and Iran's Alborz and West Azerbaijan provinces.
According to what was reported by the ministry, the attacks were planned to mark the anniversary of the death of Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian activist of Kurdish origins, killed on 16 September 2022 after being arrested by the police force for failing to comply with the obligations on women's clothing imposed in the Islamic Republic. The objective of these attacks would therefore have been to "undermine the image of security in Iran, causing panic and fear in society and inciting riots and protests", the note reads. Two intelligence officers were injured during the operations.
